Tlos Antik Kenti

About 40 km from Fethiye, in the village of Yaka in Seydikemer, Tlos sits on a rocky outcrop commanding the Eşen Valley. Mentioned even in Hittite records, it was one of the six great cities of the Lycian League, each holding three votes. An Ottoman-era fortress on the summit, temple-fronted tombs carved into the rock, a theatre, a stadium and a Roman bath stand layered on a single hillside. Legend makes it the home of Bellerophon, rider of the winged horse Pegasus.

Highlights

Acropolis & Kanlı Ali Ağa Fortress

A fortress built in Ottoman times by the local feudal lord Kanlı Ali Ağa over Lycian and Byzantine walls; from the top the whole Eşen Valley and the Akdağ range lie at your feet.

Bellerophon Tomb & Rock Tombs

Among the temple-fronted rock tombs on the acropolis slope, the most famous bears a relief of Bellerophon riding Pegasus beside its doorway.

Yakapark

Just below Tlos, Yakapark's tables sit among water channels teeming with trout; a shaded lunch break cooled by spring water.
